The Importance of Proper Form and Technique

Have you ever wondered why HIIT Logic keeps their class sizes small? Aside from our emphasis on community, one of our top priorities is to keep you safe and moving with proper form. It’s important that our coaches can give each member attention when moving through complex movements and allow them the ability to correct form in order to minimize the risk of injury. Learning proper form and technique should be thought of as the foundation of movement and exercise and is something that never ends. While we do our best to make sure you are moving properly, here are some ways for you to ensure you working with good form:

  1. Ask your coach to watch or video the movement in question and seek feedback. If you are working through a movement and something feels off to you, bring it up to your coach! Your coaches are there to guide you through the workout and provide tips and modifications to get you moving safely through the whole workout. Sometimes the difference in a movement can be a squat vs. a hinge and can easily be corrected. We always prefer that you speak up if you are unsure– it can benefit other members as well!
  2. Mimic members or coaches in class with proper form. Sometimes it is easier to watch a movement and mimic it rather than picture it and attempt. If you aren’t sure who to watch, ask a coach who has the best form in class or if they will repeat the movement when they are going over the workout or during class.
  3. View movements on our HIIT Logic Demo YouTube Page. We created the HIIT Logic Demo page for members to view our different movements from home, but also as a resource for our coaches to cue members through different exercises.

In addition to minimizing risk of injury, when you move with proper form, you can maximize your performance and build muscle more effectively.  Performing exercises with bad form puts stress onto other parts of the body and takes stress off the muscles it should be targeting; this results in a less effective workout.

The movements that we do at HIIT Logic are intended to supplement our everyday activities in life. Whether you are helping a friend move, hiking Misery Ridge, or skiing at Bachelor, we hope that by emphasizing proper technique and form at the gym it will translate to your life outside, maximize your performance, and keep you injury free!
